Grade 6 Student Blog Journal Page

Each student in grade 6 will create a blog that will serve as a journal record of his or her learning over the course of the year. Studies with me are really a two-year course. So, this blog will allow you keep a record of your learning for this year so that when we return to the same subject with different details in Grade 7, you will be able to come back to your blog as a reminder if you have forgotten some of the details from Grade 6.

Blog posts are a required aspect of Grade 6 homework. Topics for posting will be placed in the homework spreadsheet with a deadline. Posts need not be long and will, most often, ask you only to record the BIG IDEA from a text or a lesson. I may ask you to answer a question or reflect on an idea that we discussed in class. Each student's blog will be reviewed at least once per term. Blog journals that are missing posts will lead to grade deductions in the subject. Not posting is like a missed homework assignment.

Blogs will be set-up during a class session early in the year. I will show each student how to create a blog and then it will be up to each student to finish designing and posting on his or her own time. You will be able to use this page of the wiki to navigate to your blog, if you wish. However, you will have to link your blog to your name in order to do so.

If you are interested in checking the blog of one of your classmates, feel free to do so. We are studying in a collaborative environment and the blogs give us all a chance to see what we are all learning and taking away from our lessons. You may also feel free to comment on your friends' blog posts. However, all comments, whether they are positive or offering constructive feedback must be respectful and understanding. Imagine how you would feel if you were to receive the comment you are considering writing...
